Last March, I was in my first week of photographing and videotaping shows at the Vancouver International Dance Festival when the city went into COVID-19 lockdown mode. Suddenly, there was no dance, no work and no prospects of work to come in the near future. What to do, how to fill my days ….
As someone who enjoys walks, I started bringing my camera along whenever I headed out. On the Vancouver seawall, there’s a pond I often stop at, admiring the birds and enjoying moments of solitude and nature. Now, I began photographing the heron, geese, seagulls and ducks. As a longtime dance photographer, capturing motion is both a challenge and a joy, and doing the same with birds was a natural.
