New VBS President - Vancouver Ballet Society

With a new year, often come changes and VBS is no exception. After 16 years at the helm, Maureen Allen has stepped down as President, but is not going far. She will take on the duties of Past-President and a few other tasks as well. The board is so pleased that Jo-Ann Gordon, the current Vice-President, has agreed to take on the President’s position. Congratulations Jo-Ann!

Here are a few facts about Jo-Ann. A retired professional dance teacher, Jo-Ann received her Teacher’s Training Diploma from the National Ballet School in 1993 and taught for 30 years both in Toronto and Vancouver. Some of the highlights of her career were being the children’s Rehearsal Assistant for Ballet BC and Alberta Ballet’s co-production of ‘The Nutcracker’ and teaching dance to those living with Parkinson’s Disease. Since 1997 she has been a Board Director for the Vancouver Ballet Society, in various roles. Jo-Ann is thrilled to become President of the Society, which continues to involve and support young dancers in the discovery of dance.
