The first Spring Seminar took place on March 27, 1975, conducted by Frank Bourman, Ballet Master of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. At that time, it was a series of 10 days of classes, ballet only (contemporary dance was not yet offered). Students auditioned to attend the Spring Seminar in the fall and the successful candidates were offered scholarships to attend in March. That first year, Charie Evans (who went on to dance with Ballet BC) received an honorable mention, and the following year, she placed second. The seminar was held at various locations until it found its home at the Scotiabank Dance Centre. Frank Bourman was the second teacher, followed by Celia Franca and then David Moroni of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
