VBS establishes scholarships in the honour of dear members and Friends of the Society who pass away, and these scholarships are awarded on the last day of the Spring Seminar, which will fall next year on March 23, 2024. These scholarships go to support talented young dancers in their dance education and career growth, such as the talented Maya Chandrashekaran shown in the picture below. She’s a former VBS Spring Seminar Scholarship Winner and was performing recently in San Francisco Ballet’s Spring Festival at YBCA. If anyone would like to donate to existing scholarships or set up new memorial scholarships to honour the passing of their loved ones who were in the world of ballet and dance, you can do so by contacting our office on vbs@telus.net or 604-681-1525.
Former VBS Scholarship Winner, Danielle Gould taught a Master Class on April 30, 2023, and it was AMAZING! Having received her training from the National Ballet School of Canada, Pro Arte, and the Goh Ballet Academy, and being a Former Demi Soloist and Corps de Ballet with the Hungarian National Ballet, and a Former Performer with The House of Dancing Water by Franco Dragone – she beautifully shared her passion and love for movement and dance with the dancers, and we honestly didn’t want the Master Class to come to an end! Thank you to all the familiar and new faces who attended.
We welcomed Cynthia Harvey and Christian Canciani with open arms on March 12th as they landed in Vancouver, and since then, it was another one for the books! This year, 50 dancers were accepted in the Spring Seminar and 14 of them were selected by the teachers to receive scholarships to support their further dance training. The total amount of scholarships given out this year was $21,250, thank you for all VBS supporters and generous donors. As well as the scholarships, every dancer walked out of this seminar a winner! The value that the teachers have individually given to the students, and the connections and friendships that they created during this one-week intensive were precious. Spring Seminar 2023, a success indeed.
